Lions Community Social Hub
The Shoalhaven Heads Lions Community Social Hub commenced in September 2015.
The following outlines the objectives and approach in establishing a community social hub for members of Shoalhaven Heads community.
As our community changes the needs of our community also change. Many members of our community can become isolated or disconnected through a variety of circumstances and providing a setting for participants to share life stories, skills, knowledge, etc or just catch up on what is happening assists in keeping them connected.
- Support social connections and engagement opportunities in the community
- Enhance social interaction
- Reduce social isolation
- Establishing and maintaining a 'regular social hub' for community purposes
- Utilise existing community facilities.
The social hub is open to all Shoalhaven Heads community members, including: the retired, the aged, the disabled, carers, stay at home mums/dads, etc. Visitors are also very welcomed.
The Shoalhaven Heads Lions Club provides morning tea and from time to time entertainment, activities, guest speakers, etc one morning per week at the Shoalhaven Heads Community Centre. The social hub is open each Monday from 10am to noon (except public holidays)
The social hub is intended to be in addition to existing social outlets or groups.
The Shoalhaven Heads Lions Club has developed relationships with the local school, community organisations and individuals to provide entertainment to participants, as well as guest speakers from various government and private organisations and interest groups to share valuable and interesting information.
Community advocates and local outlets have been sought to promote operation of the social hub and encourage community participation.
A gold coin donation is requested from those participating which supports the hire of the Centre facilities, morning tea and entertainment. Additional expenses are supported through grants and donations from the Lions CLub and its members.
Examples of entertainment and activities for participants have included:
Shoalhaven Line Dancers, Folk and Scottish dancing,
Vincentia Red Cross Singers,
Shoalhaven Public School Band, Choir & Ukulele Band,
